How to Score S Grade in IITM BS Foundation — Strategy That Works (May 2026)
The S grade means 90 or above. It is achievable in every Foundation subject if you plan from Week 1. Here is a subject-by-subject breakdown with the actual May 2026 exam dates so you can plan backwards.
Key Dates to Plan Around — May 2026
Term Start — June 12, 2026Quiz 1 — July 19, 2026Quiz 2 — August 16, 2026End Term Exam — September 13, 2026Foundation GA Deadlines — every Wednesday 11:59 PMAfter Quiz 1 (July 19), use the [Grade Calculator](https://eduverse.study/grade-calculator) to see your exact score and what you need in Quiz 2 and the Final to reach S.
Maths 1 DS — Score S
Topics tested: Sets and Relations, Functions, Calculus (limits, differentiation, integration), Graph Theory
Weekly plan:
Weeks 1 to 4 — Watch every lecture. Don't skip or plan to catch up later.Weeks 5 to 6 — Solve all practice problems in the portal twice before Quiz 1 (July 19)Weeks 7 to 10 — Focus on integration and Graph Theory which carry high marks in Quiz 2 and FinalsWeeks 11 to 12 — Full revision using the formula sheet, solve last 3 years PYQsResources:

Statistics DS 1 — Score S
Topics tested: Descriptive statistics, probability, all distributions (Normal, Binomial, Poisson), Bayes theorem, basic inference
What works:
Memorise the PMF and PDF formulas for all distributions — they appear directly, not as derivationsPractise hypothesis testing as a step-by-step procedure, not just theoryRead every GA question twice — Stats GAs have tricky wordingGA tip: Submit every GA on Day 1 of the week. One missed GA can drag your weekly average significantly.

Maths 2 DS — Score S
Topics tested: Linear Algebra (vectors, matrices, eigenvalues), Differential Equations, advanced Calculus
What works:
Matrix operations appear in every quiz — practise row reduction and finding inverses by handEigenvalues and eigenvectors are frequently tested — understand the full processFor differential equations, focus on separation of variables and first-order linear DEsWeek-wise notes from EduVerse cover exactly what is testedResources:

Stats 2 DS — Score S
Topics tested: Hypothesis testing (t-test, chi-square, ANOVA), regression, confidence intervals
What works:
Practice the full hypothesis test procedure: H0, H1, test statistic, p-value, conclusionRegression questions test both formula and interpretation — understand what the coefficients meanSolve at least 3 years of past End Term papers before the FinalResources:

Python — Score S
Python is different from Maths and Stats because OPPE counts for 50% of the grade.
OPPE 1 is on August 1–2, 2026. OPPE 2 is on August 29 to September 6.
What works for OPPE:
Solve all GrPA problems from Week 1 — without looking at solutions firstFrom Week 5: solve 2 fresh coding problems every day on any practice platformTarget: be able to write a complete Python program in under 40 minutesSCT must be done before OPPE — complete it in Window 1 (June 1–5)What works for Quiz and Final:
Python theory (OOP, error handling, file I/O, decorators) appears in MCQ sectionsPractise writing code on paper — the OPPE has no autocompleteResources:

CT (Computational Thinking) — Score S
CT is often underestimated. It covers algorithms, flowcharts, pseudocode, and problem decomposition.
What works:
Watch every official lecture video — exam questions come directly from themPractise drawing flowcharts for searching and sorting algorithmsSolve the last 3 to 5 years of CT past papers — the question style repeats a lotResources:

English 1 and English 2
English is the most consistent route to S if you approach it seriously.
Submit every GA on time — English GAs are straightforward if you read carefullyFor reading comprehension: identify the main idea first, then look at optionsFor writing: practise intro + 2 body paragraphs + conclusion structure
The Rule That Matters Most
Never miss a GA submission. A 0 on a single GA in Maths or Stats costs more grade points than bombing an entire quiz. Set a calendar reminder right now for every Wednesday 11:59 PM until September.
Good luck. Everything you need is on EduVerse.
