About Intro to Python Programming

Python is the first subject assessed by writing code under time pressure rather than by answering questions about code. The syllabus itself is not large; the difficulty is fluency, which only comes from typing programs out rather than reading them.

Topics covered

  • Variables, types and expressions
  • Conditionals and loops
  • Functions and scope
  • Lists, dictionaries, sets and tuples
  • Strings and file handling
  • Debugging and reading error messages

Where marks go: The programming exam is a speed and accuracy test — practise writing complete working programs from a blank editor, because recognising code is not the same skill.

What is in this collection

21 assignment walkthroughs covering weeks 1 to 10. 17 have a video walkthrough and four have written working.

17 × video walkthroughs
Worked through on screen, so you can see where a step comes from.
4 × written solutions
Step-by-step working you can scan without watching a video.

Files are hosted on Google Drive and open in a new tab. Nothing here requires an account.

How to use these Python assignment walkthroughs

  1. 1Attempt the Python assignment yourself first. A walkthrough read before you have tried the problem teaches you to recognise a method, not to produce one.
  2. 2When you are stuck, read only as far as the step you were stuck on, then close it and carry on alone.
  3. 3If your answer differs from a walkthrough, work out which one is wrong before accepting either — these are written by students, not by the course team.

Common questions

How many graded assignment solutions are available for Python?

There are 21 items for Intro to Python Programming, an IITM BS Foundation level subject. 21 assignment walkthroughs covering weeks 1 to 10. 17 have a video walkthrough and four have written working. Everything opens directly, with no account needed.

Are these Intro to Python Programming graded assignment solutions free?

Yes. Everything on EduVerse is free to open and free to download. There is no paywall, no sign-up requirement for the study material, and nothing is held back behind an account.

Do I need to sign in to download Python graded assignment solutions?

No. The files are hosted on Google Drive and open in a new tab without signing in to EduVerse. Signing in is only needed for features that save things to your own account.

Can I copy these Python solutions into my graded assignment?

No. Submitting someone else's answer is academic misconduct under your institute's rules, and those rules apply regardless of what is available here. These walkthroughs are published so you can check your own reasoning or understand a method you are stuck on. Attempt the assignment first, then compare.

Are these Python graded assignment solutions correct?

They are worked by students and contributors, not by the course team, so treat them as a second opinion rather than an answer key. If one disagrees with your own working, check the course material before assuming the solution is right — and tell us, because we would rather fix it.

Are these official IIT Madras graded assignment solutions?

No. EduVerse is an independent, student-run site and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to IIT Madras. Where anything here disagrees with the official course material or the institute's own announcements, the institute is right.

Is this Python material current for my term?

This collection was last revised in April 2026. Syllabi and assessment patterns change between terms, so check the topic list on this page against your own course page before relying on it. If something is out of date, tell us and we will update or remove it.

A Python file will not open — what should I do?

The files live on Google Drive, and sharing permissions occasionally change or a file gets moved. Report it on the contact page with the page address and we will re-point or replace the link. Broken links get looked at before anything else.

Can I contribute Python graded assignment solutions?

Yes, and it is how the library grows. Use the submit page to send a file or a link. Contributions are reviewed before they are published, and material you do not have the right to share will not be accepted.

Still stuck? Ask us — or send material if you have something this page is missing.
