About Intro to Python Programming

Python is the first subject assessed by writing code under time pressure rather than by answering questions about code. The syllabus itself is not large; the difficulty is fluency, which only comes from typing programs out rather than reading them.

Topics covered

  • Variables, types and expressions
  • Conditionals and loops
  • Functions and scope
  • Lists, dictionaries, sets and tuples
  • Strings and file handling
  • Debugging and reading error messages

Where marks go: The programming exam is a speed and accuracy test — practise writing complete working programs from a blank editor, because recognising code is not the same skill.

What is in this collection

1 × Quiz 1 collection

1 × end term collection

How to use these Python past papers

  1. 1Sit one Python paper properly before looking at anything else — timed, closed book, in a single sitting. It is uncomfortable and it is the only part that tells you the truth.
  2. 2Mark it honestly, then list the topics you lost marks on. That list is your revision plan; the paper itself was only the diagnostic.
  3. 3Keep at least one recent paper unopened until the week of the exam, so you have a clean dry run left.

Common questions

How many previous year papers are available for Python?

There are 3 items for Intro to Python Programming, an IITM BS Foundation level subject. One Quiz 1 collection, one end term collection and one programming exam collection. Everything opens directly, with no account needed.

Are these Intro to Python Programming previous year papers free?

Yes. Everything on EduVerse is free to open and free to download. There is no paywall, no sign-up requirement for the study material, and nothing is held back behind an account.

Do I need to sign in to download Python previous year papers?

No. The files are hosted on Google Drive and open in a new tab without signing in to EduVerse. Signing in is only needed for features that save things to your own account.

How should I use Python previous year papers?

Attempt a paper under exam conditions before you look at any solution — timed, closed book, in one sitting. A paper you have read through is worth very little; a paper you have sat tells you exactly which topics you cannot do yet. Save at least one recent paper for the week of the exam.

Do previous year questions repeat in Python?

Exact questions rarely repeat, but question patterns do — the same topics tend to be examined in the same style and at the same depth. Use past papers to learn the shape of the exam rather than to collect answers.

Are these official IIT Madras previous year papers?

No. EduVerse is an independent, student-run site and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to IIT Madras. Where anything here disagrees with the official course material or the institute's own announcements, the institute is right.

Is this Python material current for my term?

This collection was last revised in April 2026. Syllabi and assessment patterns change between terms, so check the topic list on this page against your own course page before relying on it. If something is out of date, tell us and we will update or remove it.

A Python file will not open — what should I do?

The files live on Google Drive, and sharing permissions occasionally change or a file gets moved. Report it on the contact page with the page address and we will re-point or replace the link. Broken links get looked at before anything else.

Can I contribute Python previous year papers?

Yes, and it is how the library grows. Use the submit page to send a file or a link. Contributions are reviewed before they are published, and material you do not have the right to share will not be accepted.

Still stuck? Ask us — or send material if you have something this page is missing.
